Perhaps you brought up the waterlines this spring, and said, “I can’t remember what we did last last year – what was the order to turn on the valves?
A written Standard Operating Procedures (SOP) could help with any task that you will be repeating and has at least one key step. It also helps with staff turnover or when staff or on vacation.
For consistency, it helps to use the same format for all. Below is an outline of a simple SOP. Adapt as you need.
- Name of equipment or procedure
- Maintenance interval recommended by manufacturer or site manager
- Brief summary or purpose of the maintenance
- Special tools required
- Safety measures
- Description of the maintenance steps
- Date written and updated, author
